oh what a shambles we are in Ireland

Dear Mr Brooks,

You don’t know me; I live in Erin’s green isle,

I am a country and western fan all my life,

I was going to travel many a fair mile,

So you could sing to me and the wife,

Aiken promotions were flogging tickets,

And rubbing their hands with the profit they’d make,

Then the residents placed all their pickets,

And the GAA foundations began to shake,

Dublin city council saw only dollar signs in the air,

And the wife was all excited to be going to your gig,

And you say it’s all or nothing “to be fair”,

My opinion is you are not too big,

And I am planning to find you somehow somewhere,

You see I got friends in low places,

Who drink whiskey straight given half a chance?

They could not care less about your social graces,

Both the wife and I are in pain we’re missing the dance,

There is a fine line between love and hate,

So I’ve taken a total dislike to your music and tunes,

The wife and I don’t speak I hope you think it’s great,

My sex life is firmly in tatters and ruins,

So, Mr Brooks you might have missed the pain,

But half of Ireland is now missing their dance,

And all my friends in low places have nothing to gain,

But believe me they won’t miss their chance,

Between you, Mr Aiken, Dublin city council and the GAA,

Along with the Irish government at large,

All your fans are in shock we have very little to say,

I’d appreciate a ticket to a different place free of charge,

I’ll hold off on my friends in low places,

Who don’t dance but like to inflict some pain,

And if you reconsider it might stop the wife from pulling faces,

Between you and me I think we both could gain.

Sincerely yours the husband of a garth brooks fan,

Not I might add living anywhere near the capital city,

Anywhere else in the world they’d say bring it on we’ll do all we can,

Alas the world simply evolves solely around Dublin more’s the pity.

for the day that's in it feel free to share

Every father’s day

It was father’s day on Sunday and I sat at home,

Praying like most others that I would be left alone,

All year long I hear it said father’s day every day,

Then Whats the fuss on a single day is all I have to say,

Why not ask all fathers what it is they’d like to do,

Most likely ask your mother is what he’ll say to you,

The answer is most different but none the less real,

Nearly all would like a hassle free day not be taken for a meal,

And kids that really think what it means to you,

And a wife with no need to prompt them what to do,

Give no cause for him to worry shows him that you care,

He knows no matter what he will always be right here,

Being the best you can be in all you ever try,

And be honest with your stories never ever lie,

When it comes to all that matter’s he is right there by your side,

And you can always tell it is his best he tried,

As children do we really know what our fathers truly like?

Or is it have a great day dad and then we take a hike,

He doesn’t really mind if you forgot to get a card,

He knows exactly how life can get so hard,

For all you are now doing he has done it once before,

To save you the mishaps he has had and more,

He doesn’t want to sit there and hear his praises aired,

He much would rather that each day you said you cared,

And showed him how much every single day,

By doing well in what you think and all you say,

There is no instruction book to tell him what to do,

It’s all a learning curve in how he tries to help you,

On fathers day it’s not all about a meal and then a drink,

More about how he is and valuing what he thinks’,

So on this day take the time to show him who you really are,

Smile and thank him for helping you get this far,

And know what makes him happy a father like no other,

Are surely all the things that you do for your poor mother?

Every day is father’s day though he will never tell,

Knowing that his children are alive and doing well.

Completely finished

No English dictionary can explain the difference between, complete and finished,

Some people say there is no difference and either word cannot be diminished,

Try as I might I have looked in most,

And the amount of time and effort it’s cost,

Has my head in such a spin,

Between complete and finished I can’t decide who wins,

Am I finished when I decide that I am done?

Are things complete when it is no longer fun?

Things seem confusing when I am near the end,

For on these two words I cannot depend,

I’m beginning to think that final is the thing,

Yet complete and finished have such a nice ring,

So I’ve thrown the dictionaries into the thrash,

And decided to explain things simple but harsh,

Here is my take on these similar words to date,

Because on my nerves they are beginning to grate,

When you marry the right woman you are thus complete,

And all things in life are then nice and neat,

When you marry the wrong woman then you are surely finished,

And your life will steadily and painfully diminish,

But should the right one catch you with the wrong one having fun,

Then you are completely finished and finally done,

But if you don’t start in the first place there’s no end,

Having been caught with the wrong woman you cannot defend,

All in all I am still confused,

Right or wrong woman I am completely finished feeling used,

So I should stick with the right woman and be complete,

Because the wrong one will see me finished in defeat,
